Hormonal Imbalance Treatment for Adrenal Fatigue and Hypercortisolism

The adrenal glands are small glands that sit above your kidneys. The Adrenals are responsible for several different hormone productions, including your sex hormones. Perhaps, the most notable of these hormones is cortisol. You may have heard it before that cortisol is your stress hormone. Most of us have also been told that this hormone is known to cause weight gain. However, cortisol does many more important jobs in the body than just that. In fact, cortisol is needed for fluid and electrolyte balance in the body and to also regulate our blood sugar. Too much of this hormone is elevated in times of chronic stress and can lead to a rise in our blood sugar level, possibly contributing to insulin resistance or pre-diabetes.

On the other hand, chronic low cortisol is known as adrenal fatigue and can be very problematic as well. People who suffer from adrenal fatigue report severe fatigue and trouble getting out of bed in the mornings, low blood pressure, dizziness, and salt and sugar cravings. It is important that we assess for these two hormonal imbalances and correct that imbalance using dietary modifications, stress management, and various supplements to support the adrenal glands.
